Dork Diaries: Skating Sensation by Rachel Renee Russell

June 5, 2012

Dork Diaries: Skating Sensation by Rachel Renee Russell. Pub. Simon & Schuster, 2012.

Nikki Maxwell and her friends Chloe and Zoey are in their early teens. They are full of life and interested in boys. Nikki keeps a diary for the month of December and it counts down to an ice skating competition and a party to be given by a hunky boy Brandon.

Brandon is a nice boy, he is caring, good looking and has a mysterious background. Whats more he likes Nikki and she is overjoyed.

Nikki has a rival in the form of poodle come airhostess, MacKenzie and a little sister Brianna who causes havoc in her life when the chance arises.

It’s all fun but there is a distinct difference from what this novel describes as a Dork, io that which is held in New Zealand.

Nikki calls herself a dork and she would rather prise her eye out with a dirty spatula than read Moby Dick (who wouldn’t). Even though she can’t skate she enters into a charity skating competition to save a cat and dog home, and the fun starts.

Easy read for reluctant girl readers at intermediate level, it is the fourth book in the series which should be popular.
