The Scarecrows’ Wedding by Julia Donaldson & Axel Scheffler.
Betty O’Barley and Harry O’Hay are scarecrows doing what good scarecrows do, frighten away birds. But they want more out of life than this. They are happy together and want to get married. Why not? Everybody is getting married these days.
They write a list of what they need and who they want to attend and Harry goes off to find them.
Things do not run smoothly and Harry is longer than he thought. In comes a classic shoveller and spiv, Reginald Rake, with some very bad habits and attitude. What’s worse is he has eyes for Betty.
Will Betty and Harry see him off? Read it and find out.
Excellent colourful illustrations from Axel Scheffler. Betty is adorable and Harry the wide eyed and honest innocent. The cows are all horns except for the calf, the farmer is laconic and Reginald is classic.
Great to read aloud. Pre schoolers and juniors will love it. My girls did.
