FabioFabio: The Worlds greatest Flamingo detective. Case of the Missing Hippo by Laura James, illus. Emily Fox. Pub. Bloomsbury, 2018.

This is a delightful detective story for juniors and newly confident readers. Fabio is a pink flamingo and a detective in the Hercule Poirot mold. he has an offsider in a giraffe called Gilbert who finds it difficult to disguise himself.

They drink pink lemonades at the Hotel Royal run by a vulture called Smith and the hotel is not doing very well. It is decided that they will run a talent quest to boost trade and all the animals line up to compete. There is a suspicious rhino hanging around and when a classy hippo singer goes missing in the contest Fabio puts his skills into action.

Very tongue in cheek humour with short chapters and large font.

Emily Fox’s illustrations are a treat.
