great womenGreat Women Who Saved the Planet by Kate Pankhurst. Pub. Bloomsbury, 2020.

Most of the women you are going to read about in this non fiction picture book, you will never have heard about but some of them you will know. Each woman had an important part to play in protecting this planet and the people and animals on it.

Jane Goodall showed the chimpanzees who are humans closest relatives act and behave in ways similar to our own.

New Zealander Edith Farkas studied the ozone layer for years and was able to prove that it was in danger from CFC’s in refrigerators and spray cans. These were banned and the Ozone layer has healed.

Anita Roddick of Body Shop fame help stop testing of beauty products on animals as many of them suffered and died.

There is a double page spread given to each woman and they are all fantastic stories. My favourite was Ingeborg Beling who found that bees and other insects have an internal clock which dictates how and when the behave in a certain fashion. Find oud what she discovered about bees.

Easy to read with boxes of information and very well illustrated. A great acquisition for the school library and the home for primary and intermediate aged children.
